Neurophysiology

Neurophysiology is a diagnostic speciality that involves considerable patient contact.

We perform a wide variety of tests to assess the function of the central and peripheral nervous systems. The most widely known tests are probably the electroencephalogram (EEG) and nerve conduction study (NCS). Details of the tests we perform can be found within this section of the website.

Our colleagues in neurology, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, paediatrics and intensive care units frequently call upon our services. Our tests help to confirm clinically suspected conditions and at times rule out others. Very often we detect conditions that were not suspected clinically and this can be useful in starting early treatment.

Neurophysiology has advanced tremendously over the last quarter of a century largely due to new technological developments used in health care. The impact of technology on our speciality means that we are an ever-evolving discipline.
