“The Trust is at a very exciting stage of development of research and innovation. Recognising the great benefits that research can bring to our patients, through collaboration with our local universities in the North West and in Wales, The Walton Centre is one of the world’s leading centres for neurosciences, spinal and pain research. This ensures that ‘excellence in neuroscience’ is achieved for all our patients at the present time and well into the future.
We will, through our research activities, keep the Trust at the leading edge of treatment, enable it to retain a strong international reputation and promote recruitment of excellent academic and non-academic clinical staff. We strive to ensure that all patients have the same opportunity to enter clinical trials.
We are developing innovative ways of treating common conditions to ensure that we are providing optimal treatments. We audit the work that we currently do to ensure that we are providing effective treatment outcomes.

We will build a critical mass of interested clinicians, academics and basic scientists to ensure a high quality of patient-focussed research output.
The benefits of good research are extensive in terms of long-term improvement of treatment for patients and improvements in the way that services are organised”
