Home from Home Appeal
Our Home from Home relatives' accommodation is now open for use by relatives of patients who are receiving critical care at the Walton Centre. The facility was made possible by the generous support of families and friends of patients; Walton Centre staff; community organisations and corporate partners. We are very grateful to each and every one who played their part in making it a reality.
The Home from Home Appeal to raise £500,000 started when former Liverpool footballer David Fairclough approached our Clinical Director of Neurosurgery, Pain, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Mr Paul May in 2011, to ask if he could help organise a charity ball. David had lost his beloved wife Jan to a brain aneurysm and he wanted to do something positive for other patients and families. This was the start of the appeal, and thanks to its success we are currently able to provide the facility free of charge.
Football legend David Fairclough is helping to support our appeal, a cause very close to his heart
"My wonderful wife Jan died in The Walton Centre in April 2011, following a brain aneurysm. She received the most wonderful care but sadly could not be saved.
"In the short time she spent in Intensive Care, me and my family kept vigil by her side, taking short breaks in a visitors' room where we tried to snatch a little sleep in armchairs.
"If you would like to help support families whose families are undergoing life-saving treatment at The Walton Centre, please make a donation to the Home from Home fund so we can continue providing this wonderful facility free of charge."
