The Neuroscience Laboratories

The Neuroscience Laboratories provide a comprehensive, specialist service. Laboratory analyses help our clinicians make accurate diagnoses and support monitoring and treatment for patients within the Trust and associated clinics.

The Neuroscience Laboratories are accredited by United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) against standards for Medical Laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence (reference number 8642).  Activities accredited are described on our UKAS schedule of accreditation found on the UKAS website here.

The department is also regulated and licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) (license number 12030).  Full report details may be found here.                          

The Laboratories are made up of three major disciplines:Scientist in the lab

  • Clinical neuropathology/CSF cytology
  • Clinical neurobiochemistry
  • Clinical neuroimmunology.

The Neuropathology Laboratory was commissioned in 1958 with the aim of providing comprehensive in-house neuropathology and specialist biochemistry services.
