Working for Us

Around 1450 staff work for The Walton Centre and each and every one of us is dedicated to providing the best patient care.

The Trust was awarded Investors in People Gold Standard in 2014 and again in 2017 and is one of only a handful of Trusts to achieve this status - recognising ‘world class HR’. In addition, the Trust also received the Health and Wellbeing IIP Award - and less than 1% of UK employers have this dual accreditation.

Both awards recognise a wide programme of work to improve health and wellbeing; reduce levels of sickness absence; and encourage a culture of learning and personal development that has been on-going for several years. There is a strong culture of trade union engagement with the local representative for Unison leading the internal health and wellbeing agenda.

All employee engagement is underpinned by the Walton Way, a set of Values - pride, dignity, respect, openness and caring. These long standing values are embedded in the organisation’s strategies, policies and key staff processes such as the appraisal system.

The organisation offers a dynamic and ever expanding raft of health and wellbeing activities that include a busy calendar of exercise classes, a running club, Pilates, Zumba, circuit training; plus subsidised massage therapy, a cycle scheme, weight management and smoking cessation. Many of these are actively supported by The Walton Centre and in most cases are subsidised. In addition, an Employee of the Month Award is made to those who have ‘gone over and above’ the call of duty to benefit either patients or their colleagues.

Regular listening events take place in all staff areas and the results are fed back to the Executive Team, with actions taken where possible. In Friends and Family Staff Test, results consistently show high levels of respondees either extremely likely or likely to recommend The Walton Centre for care; and to recommend the Walton Centre as a place to work.

In 2015, the Recruitment Team won the Best Support Team of the Year Award at the Trust's annual staff awards ceremony.
