Finalists for five top awards

Leaders at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust have been shortlisted for five separate awards.

Dr Liz Mear is a finalist in the Chief Executive of the Year category in the Health Service Journal Awards.

Also shortlisted for awards are the entire Trust Board plus Council of Governors, neurosurgeon Paul May, Director of Research and Corporate Governance Gill Brown and Deputy Finance Director Mike Burns.

It follows the transformation of The Walton Centre, with one extra new ward and another doubled in size and refurbished; and a new operating theatre. Work is also under way on an additional new building to house expanded rehabilitation services, the Pain Management Programme, relatives’ accommodation and a Brain Injuries Unit.

Dr Mear said: “It really has been an amazing year for our Trust and being finalists for these awards reflects the hard work and determination of not just us as Executives, but all our staff to achieve high standards while going through all the upheaval of building work and recruiting more staff.”

Gill Brown is a finalist in the Company Secretary Awards, part of the ICSA Excellence in Governance Awards.

In the NHS NW Leadership Academy Awards, Clinical Director of Neurosurgery, Pain, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Paul May is a finalist in Emerging Leader of the Year; and the Trust Board and Council of Governors are a finalist in NHS Board/Governing Body of the Year.

Deputy Finance Director Mike Burns is a finalist for the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Deputy Finance Director of the Year Award.

The HSJ Awards take place on 19th November; the ICSA Excellence in Governance Awards on 13th November; the NHS NW Leadership Academy Awards are on 20th November; and the HFMA Awards are on 6th December.
