Since June, 26 nurses have arrived from Asia and India to work as Registered nurses at The Walton Centre. In the weeks since they arrived, they have been undergoing intensive training and gaining additional qualifications to ensure they have the specific skills to care for our patients to a high standard.

Practice Educator and Lead for International Recruitment Julie McEnerney said: “Since arriving at the hospital the nurses have really hit the ground running. I’m so proud of how they have adapted and worked hard to get ready to care for our patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions.

“It’s important to remember that they have taken big steps in leaving their countries, and in some cases their families, to make homes here and work at The Walton Centre. Existing staff are supporting them during this transition of working for the NHS. Pastoral support is being provided by a Registered Nurse who herself was an International recruit.”

The most recent cohort of nurses have just completed their training.

When asked about moving to The Walton Centre, they said:

“So far so good!”

“The Trust is very caring and attentive when we need it. I think I made the right choice.” Aubrey Castillo

“I’ve never seen snow! We took lots of videos and loved it, even though it was freezing!”

“Everyone has been very accommodating so far, I’m confident in approaching colleagues for help.” Parvathy Vijayakumar

The recruitment is part of a regional incentive to encourage international nurses to work in the North West.

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is the only hospital trust in the UK specialising in neurology, neurosurgery and pain services. It has twice been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. Although the majority of patients come from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, for some specialist treatments of complex disorders we see patients from all parts of the country, referred by their GPs or other neurologists, neurosurgeons and pain clinicians.
