The Walton Centre rated sixth in the country for overall experience in the latest National Inpatient Survey

Date: 02 July 2020

The Walton Centre scored top marks in the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) National Inpatient Survey, ranking 6th in the country against other Trusts when asked about overall experience.

Each year Trusts take part in the survey, which asks patients staying in hospital to rate different aspects of their care. The report, published by the CQC this week, highlights that the hospital scored better than most Trusts for eight of the 12 sections (one section is not applicable as it relates to A&E, a service the Trust does not provide). Over 50% of patients who were sent surveys responded and gave The Walton Centre high marks, which demonstrates patients receive high quality care and experience during their stay.

The hospital scored best in the country waiting to get a bed on a ward and made the top ten for both the nursing and hospital and ward category.

Only two areas for improvement were identified, which relate to support provided after leaving hospital from the NHS and other agencies. These areas form part of the Trust’s Action Plan for continued improvement.

Director of Nursing & Governance Lisa Salter said: “I’m delighted with the results of the latest National Inpatient Survey. Our vision is ‘Excellence in Neuroscience’ and we know that this can only be achieved by placing our patients and their families at the heart of what we do.

“Our approach to care recognises each patient as part of a wider group of people. These findings show that our patient and family centred approach to care is working.

“In the next year and beyond we will continue to build on this work to ensure we are working together with patients and their families as equal partners in care, in line with our Walton way values.”

The Trust’s ambition to improve quality uses findings from the national inpatient survey as a measure of progress and year on year improvement is set as one of the aims of the Quality Strategy.
