Multiple Sclerosis - Teriflumonide (Aubagio) Therapy
Your consultant has agreed that you are eligible for treatment with Teriflunomide. This is a once daily oral medication for the treatment of active relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
Side effects can include alopecia (hair thinning), changes to your Liver Function (LFTs) and hypertension (high blood pressure). You will be followed up in the MS clinic by your Consultant and MS nurse regularly. It is important that you keep your appointments so that your response to treatment can be assessed. We may also ask your GP to organise blood monitoring.
If you are a women of child bearing age please be advised that Teriflunomide has been shown to be harmful to the foetus and therefore you should take effective contraception to prevent pregnancy. If you suspect you might be pregnant you should inform your consultant or MS Nurse. If you are planning to change your contraception you should discuss this first with your consultant or MS Nurse. There appears to be low risk to the foetus from a male taking Teriflunomide.
We advise that the day before you start Teriflunomide you should take a pregnancy Test. You should not breast feed whilst taking Teriflunomide. If it is necessary to stop Teriflumomide for any reason your consultant may wish to give you a treatment to speed up removal of Teriflunomide from your body.
