The team provide specific intervention in relation to psychological adjustment to illness, injury and disability including cognitive assessment, advice and guidance in relation to brain injury or neurological conditions. They also provide psychological consultation, advice and support in relation to challenging behaviour and other more complex presentations.

The team works closely with members of the wider multidisciplinary team to provide a holistic inpatient service, which addresses not only physical recovery, but also the emotional and psychological repercussions of neurological and spinal injuries and illnesses.

The neuropsychology inpatient service signposts to ongoing sources of psychological support to ensure patients’ psychological needs continue to be supported on discharge from The Walton Centre.

The team provides consultation, advice and support, as well as staff training to raise the level of psychological understanding across the wider workforce and to improve knowledge and awareness of the cognitive and psychological impact of neurological and spinal conditions.
