COVID-19 restrictions to remain in place at The Walton Centre

Restrictions remain in place across the NHS in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The safety measures in place over the 18 months therefore remain in place at The Walton Centre - and in our other clinic settings within the community – until further notice.

Due to the increased transmission risk posed by the Omicron variant, visiting has been suspended within The Walton Centre except for exceptional circumstances.

A team of 21 staff and supporters took a leap of faith and abseiled 150 feet down the Liverpool Cathedral at the weekend, to raise money for The Walton Centre Charity and support excellence in neuroscience, and patient treatment and care.

Donations will go towards the Home from Home relatives’ accommodation at The Walton Centre where relatives can stay after a patient has been admitted for urgent treatment. Over £5,000 was raised.

Two of the Walton Centre team are Marie Conroy, Staff Nurse in Outpatients, and Pauline Ward, HCA in Outpatients.

Marie said, “I’ve always enjoyed an adventure and I have previously done a 13,000 ft. skydive in Australia and the longest zip-line in the Philippines, so abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral was perfect for my next challenge! I’ve seen first-hand the benefit of the Home from Home accommodation when I was working on Chavasse Ward – ensuring family members can be so close to their loved ones while they’re going through treatment is really special.”

Pauline wanted to face her fears as well as raise money for a great cause. “The Walton Centre saved my mum’s life – it’s one of the reasons I have worked at this amazing hospital for 15 years. Raising money for The Walton Centre Charity which supports patients and staff is just a great thing to do. I’m also turning 50 this year and abseiling 150ft will make me conquer my fear of heights!”
