COVID-19 Restrictions to remain in place at our hospital

We would like to remind you that the restrictions currently in place across the NHS will remain for the foreseeable future. This includes limitations on visiting patients, and infection control measures such as wearing face masks, temperature checks and maintaining social distancing when at our hospital.

Day Case Admissions

Opening times

Monday - Friday:   8:00am – 6:00pm

The Walton Centre provides a number of services which involve treatments where an inpatient stay is not necessary. In these cases, patients are asked to attend the hospital for the day for short procedures and/or treatments. Usually you will be able to go home the same day of treatment. There’s more information on what to expect and links to more information further down.

Some patients may be required to fast before receiving treatment. This means you cannot eat or drink anything over a given length of time. Any such instructions should be on your appointment letter. You can contact the Unit staff directly to confirm whether this applies to you, via the contact information on your appointment letter.

Things to bring in with you

As you will only be on the ward for a few hours it is not necessary for you to bring nightwear, but a dressing gown or housecoat may be useful. We advise you to bring a book or magazine to read, as you may be required to rest at times. You also may wish to bring some casual footwear. A small snack and drinks are provided to patients during or after treatment, so you do not need to bring food with you.

If you have been told that you need to fast but still have to take medication, please do so with the smallest amount of water necessary. Bring with you a list of all medication you are presently taking and any you will need to take during your short stay.

Please remember that if you drive to hospital, you may not be able to drive after your treatment. Therefore, it may be best to use public transport or arrange for a relative or friend to drop you off and collect you. If you have to drive to hospital, a relative or friend may stay with you. Where practical, we advise them to go home and telephone later in the day for details about your discharge time.
