This year The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating its 30th birthday!

In 1992 the hospital became a Foundation Trust and the UK’s only specialist hospital dedicated to neurology, neurosurgery and neurosciences.

Chief Executive Jan Ross said: “I’m incredibly proud of the achievements of our staff over the last three decades that have made us the hospital we are – leading neuroscience treatment and care nationally and internationally. It’s important to see where we’ve come from and the key moments that have defined the hospital. Knowing this helps to shape and improve the Trust for future generations.

“The Walton Centre has a rich history and we want to hear more stories from patients, staff and visitors, past and present!”

To celebrate, the Trust is asking for people to contribute stories and experiences of The Walton Centre, which will be shared over the course of the year. There are also plans for events and key moments to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

As part of these celebrations we also want to recognise the support from our fantastic fundraisers and charity. With their amazing support, many key pieces of equipment and technology have been brought to the Trust to enhance patient treatment and care, together with new and enhanced facilities like the Home from Home relatives’ accommodation.

Head of Fundraising Madeleine Fletcher said: “Looking back at what our fundraisers have done over the years; it’s amazing to see what’s been made possible with their efforts. I am so proud of the charity’s achievements and you can see how it directly impacts patient care.

“With fundraiser support we’ve been able to bring cutting-edge technology such as fully endoscopic spinal surgical equipment, an Intra-operative MRI thanks to the Marina Dalglish appeal and build an innovative garden room for ITU patients. I look forward to what the next 30 years bring!”

Angela Stockley started her career here in 1991 as an Auxiliary and Ward Clerk. Since then, she has qualified as a nurse and worked in many specialisms, including headache and neuromodulation. She said: “Over the years I have been very fortunate to have had a lot of opportunities and a variety of roles. I have worked with some wonderful people and have made some lovely friends who have supported me along my journey; I will hold these memories and these people close to my heart.”

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is the only hospital trust in the UK specialising in neurology, neurosurgery and pain services. Although the majority of patients come from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, for some specialist treatments of complex disorders we see patients from all parts of the country, referred by their GPs or other neurologists, neurosurgeons and pain clinicians.

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission. The independent regulator of all health and social care services in England published its rating on Friday 21 October 2016, following announced and unannounced inspection visits to the Trust in April 2016.
