The focus of rehabilitation is to enable people to live as independently as possible by maximising their clinical outcomes. The Cheshire and Merseyside Rehabilitation Network provides different levels of specialist rehabilitation care so the patient’s pathway can be tailored specifically for their individual needs. Rehabilitation is different for every person depending on individual injuries or illness and what stage they are at in recovery.
Patients are individually assessed and a rehabilitation programme is developed specific to their rehabilitation needs.
Patients on the rehabilitation units receive input from occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics and psychology, as indicated during their stay on the units. Orthoptists and orthotists provide a service on an individual referral basis.

Rehabilitation Consultants
Dr Ganesh Bavikatte
Dr Ganesh Bavikatte is a Consultant and Clinical Lead in the Rehabilitation department at The Walton Centre in Liverpool, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Liverpool.
Dr Shagufay Mahendran
Dr Shagufay Mahendran is a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at The Walton Centre where she is also the Clinical Lead for innovation.
Dr Helen Banks
Dr Helen Banks is a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, working with inpatients on Seddon Specialist Rehabilitation Unit at St Helens Hospital where those with physical, cognitive or communication impairment after illness or injury are provided with multidisciplinary rehabilitation.

Dr Colin Pinder is a Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation at The Walton Centre.
Dr Kaythi Latt
Dr Kaythi Latt has been a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at The Walton Centre since 2015 following specialist rehabilitation training in North West Deanery.
