Directions and parking 

The Walton Centre has two buildings; the main hospital building and the Sid Watkins Building. Please check your appointment letter to see what building your appointment is in. We are based on the same site as Aintree University Hospital. Some patients may be seen in other healthcare settings closer to their home.

Car parking

The Walton Centre is based on the same site as Aintree University Hospital, who manages the car parking across the whole site. The majority of car parks on the site operate a ticketless, pay-on-foot system that uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). Please make a note of your car registration number - you will need this to pay. The various machines accept cash and card payment.

Blue Badge Holders

Blue Badge holders may park free of charge. Please note that Blue Badge holders parking on double yellow lines is not permitted as this is not covered on private land which includes the hospital site.

Please park in a marked bay and display your badge.

To obtain free parking, you will need to know your vehicle registration number and have a photograph/copy/screen shot of your badge. Before you leave the hospital, please attend reception at either the main entrance or Sid Watkins Building with your vehicle registration number and visual proof of your Blue Badge and they will ensure that you can leave the car park free of charge. Please note staff can only authorise free parking with visual proof of your Blue Badge, and your vehicle registration number.

Parking concessions 

We operate a parking concession scheme for patients undergoing long term treatment, and/or visitors attending the site frequently.  

Concessionary passes must only be used in the designated car park areas.  

Multi storey car park (P5): £17.50 weekly pass. Tickets can only be purchased from the ticket machines in the multi storey car park

Site and pedestrian safety

Breach of contract notices are issued where vehicles obstruct access/park indiscriminately. Parking terms and conditions are in place – please park in marked bays and avoid Blue Badge bays (unless displaying the appropriate badge), double yellow lines, yellow/hatch areas, grass verges, pavements and loading bays.

Getting here

Rail

The closest train station is Fazakerley (approx. 10 minute walk to The Walton Centre) which has regular connections to central Liverpool. More information can be found at Merseyrail.org. 

Bus

A number of different bus routes come to the hospital. For up to date information please visit Merseytravel.gov.uk

Road

The Walton Centre is easily accessible via the M6 and M62. 

M6 Southbound: Leave the motorway at J26 (signposted Skelmersdale) and join the M58. Leave the M58 at its end and at the roundabout take the first exit onto M57. Leave at J6. Turn right at roundabout onto A506. Follow for one and a half miles and at the traffic lights turn left onto Lower Lane. The entrance to The Walton Centre is on the right. 

M6 Northbound and M62: Leave the M6 at J23 (Haydock). Travel for more than five miles along East Lancashire Road (A580). Turn right at lights just past the Showcase Cinema, onto Lower Lane. The Walton Centre is on the left. 

West via the East Lancashire Road (A580): Travel along the East Lancashire Road (A580), passing under the M57; continue for a further mile and take the third turning right onto Lower Lane. The entrance to The Walton Centre is on the left.
