Katie Fletcher - Information Governance Deputy Manager

Katie Fletcher

How long have you worked at The Walton Centre?
Since 2016.

What's your background?
I attended college straight from school and then from there I attended Edge Hill University Studying Drama. I received a bachelor of honours in this major in 2015. I then started my career working in NHS in The Walton Centre on temporary agency work then progressed onto the NHS Bank in medical records as a prepping clerk. I continued to work my way through various roles such as a supervisor to then lead me into Information Governance, where I have been for nearly four years. I have been eternally grateful for the opportunities the Trust has given me to be able to progress throughout my carer and ensuring there are plenty of education opportunities, such as courses to attend to expand my knowledge and learning.

Tell us about your role.
Within my role as the Information Governance Deputy Manager, I am responsible for ensuring there are necessary safeguards and procedures in place to protect patient and also staff information. I manage two teams including the IG team and the SAR team, where we oversee Freedom of Information and Subject Access requests to ensure we release information within the dedicated deadlines. I monitor and investigate IG incidents and identify if an external breach has occurred where I then liaise with the IG manager, SIRO, Caldicott Guardian and DPO for the Trust to see if we need to report to the Information Commissioner’s Officer (ICO). I also ensure the correct documentation such as Data Sharing Agreements and Data Protection Impact Assessments are completed for any new equipment, software or information sharing portals to protect the Trust from proposed risks and breaches.

What would you be if you were not in your current role?
My initial dream was to become a stage actor; I still have a passion for theatre and the dramatic arts and like to attend shows when I get the opportunity.

Favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is my team. My team are what strives me to try and achieve my best for our department. They are always willing to give me a helping hand and ensure we have a good laugh while doing it. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and I am grateful I have motivated individuals beside me.

First thing you do when you get home from work?
When I finish work the first thing I do is step into my mum shoes, no time to relax, I take care of my 2-year-old son Clark and we enjoy playing and spending quality time together.

Your perfect day outside of work?
My perfect day is spending time with my family, in hot weather doing something fun and creating memories.

Favourite song, book and film?
My favourite song is ‘Believe’ by Cher (my all-time karaoke pick). My favourite book is 'The Secret'. I enjoy manifesting good things into my life and enjoy anything that gives positivity. My favourite film is ‘Jack Frost’ with Michael Keaton, a real tearjerker and great for this time of the year.

If you could have a pint or pizza with anyone in history, who would it be?
Well mine would be a gin and tonic with Robin Williams, an amazing actor and inspiration to many. ‘Your words and ideas can change the world’ – Robin Williams.
