New guidelines launched for fibromyalgia syndrome

New guidelines for the diagnosis of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) have been published, the first UK guidelines for the condition. The Walton Centre pain consultant, Dr Andreas Goebel, was one of the lead authors.

In October this year, The Walton Centre enhanced the Thrombectomy service to run 24 hours a day seven days a week, enabling hospitals in the region to refer to the service at any time. Thrombectomy is an innovative procedure which involves using guide wires and specialist equipment to remove blood clots from arteries and veins in the brain.

International Nurses make The Walton Centre their home

Since June, 26 nurses have arrived from Asia and India to work as Registered nurses at The Walton Centre. In the weeks since they arrived, they have been undergoing intensive training and gaining additional qualifications to ensure they have the specific skills to care for our patients to a high standard.
Public consultation about hyper-acute stroke services gets underway

The NHS in Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton and West Lancashire has launched a 12-week public consultation about the proposal to establish a Comprehensive Stroke Centre at Aintree University Hospital. The proposal aims to improve hyper-acute stroke services, which is the hospital care provided in the 72-hour period immediately after someone has a stroke.
