    A team of staff and supporters from The Walton Centre completed a bespoke course around the streets of Liverpool today as part of the Virtual Virgin London Marathon, raising over £6,000 for The Walton Centre Charity and support excellence in neuroscience, and patient treatment and care.

    New lease of life for Sam after successful shunt operation

    Sam Kristiansen was born with congenital Hydrocephalus, a build-up of fluid on the brain which can cause lasting damage, and has been managing his condition his whole life. At the age of three he was fitted with a shunt, which, until recently, had been working as it should to drain fluid away from his brain.

    The 33 year old from Chester is tackling the three Welsh peaks challenge three times over three days in May 2022 to raise money for The Walton Centre Charity. Doug will climb Snowdon, Cadair Idris & Pen Y fan each day for three days to complete the challenge.

    Patient drinks innovative ‘pink drink’ to help surgeon remove brain tumour

    When 53 year old Christine Bore had a seizure at home in Southport, little did she know that that cause was a brain tumour. She was quickly referred to The Walton Centre, where Professor Michael Jenkinson diagnosed it as a grade four glioblastoma.

    From Monday 19th July 2021, the majority of COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted across England. Many of the safety measures that have been in place for use in public settings such as social distancing and face coverings will be down to personal choice. It has been decided nationally that the restrictions currently in place across the NHS will remain for the foreseeable future. From 19th July 2021, the existing safety measures at The Walton Centre - and in our other clinic settings within the community - will remain in place until further notice.

    Staff and supporters take a leap of faith for charity

    A team of 21 staff and supporters took a leap of faith and abseiled 150 feet down the Liverpool Cathedral at the weekend, to raise money for The Walton Centre Charity and support excellence in neuroscience, and patient treatment and care.

    Families continue save and improve lives through deceased organ donation

    New figures out today reveal that The Walton Centre was one of the top 20 centres for organ donation last year. 17 patients who passed away at the hospital became organ donors, contributing to the national effort to save or improve the lives of 3,391 people desperately in need of a transplant in the UK.

    The Walton Centre has extended satellite spinal clinics in North Wales for the first time. The specialist neurosciences trust, based in Liverpool, is working alongside the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt NHS Foundation Trust to bring care for spinal patients closer to home.

    Jan Ross announced as new CEO of The Walton Centre

    Jan Ross, former Director of Operations and Strategy and Deputy Chief Executive at The Walton Centre, has been appointed as the Trust’s new Chief Executive. Jan, who has 30 years’ experience working in the NHS, joined The Walton Centre in November 2018. A nurse by background, she has also spent time at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

    Luke is beating the odds after recovering from brain injury

    Luke Siner was rushed to The Walton Centre in July last year after sustaining a massive brain injury in Liverpool. The 23 year old had emergency surgery, which resulted in having a third of his skull removed to accommodate the swelling in his brain. Now fitted with a titanium metal plate, Luke has made an almost full recovery.

    Fighting cancer one day at a time, with help from staff at The Walton Centre

    Annette, 45, was sent for an emergency CT scan at the Countess of Chester, which revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain. She was referred to The Walton Centre for urgent neurosurgery, where Consultant Neurosurgeon Mr Andrew Brodbelt managed to remove the entire tumour.
