Learning disabilities and autism
The role of the learning disabilities and liaison nurse in The Walton Centre is to support and advise when a patient has a learning disability and/or autism attends outpatients or is admitted to a ward.
Support that can be offered
- See if any reasonable adjustments can be made
- Visit patients with learning disabilities and/or autism who come into hospital
- Facilitate planning for patients coming in for a procedure/planned admission
- Work with external providers in the community for a joint approach/planning
- Ensure health passports, carers passports are shared with patients
- Look at accessible information
- Promote positive experiences and outcomes for a person coming into The Walton Centre
