Neuropsychology Department

What is neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is a science-focused upon understanding the relationship between the brain and human behaviour.

Neurological conditions can affect a person's brain in different ways, this may include changes to a person's cognition (such as their memory functioning, concentration, and thinking skills), their emotions, and their behaviour.

In addition, having a neurological condition and the changes and difficulties it may cause can impact on our emotions. How we feel can affect aspects of our thinking, as can other difficulties a person may have, such as fatigue and pain. These factors can have an additional impact on our cognition and can be another reason to understand how, and what, may be affecting a person's cognitive functioning.

Clinical neuropsychology aims to better understand the cognitive and emotional impacts of neurological conditions in order to help develop a better understanding of what is causing these types of problems and what might be helpful for a person to manage or reduce these difficulties.
