Neuroimmunology

The Neuroimmunology Department in The Neuroscience Laboratories performs a variety of specialist tests. Neuroimmunology staff are available for consultation and advice - Monday to Friday until 5.30pm. Please see contact information for telephone numbers.

Neuroimmunology is the study of the interaction between the immune and nervous systems. In its clinical aspects, Neuroimmunology focuses on diseases of the nervous system which are caused by pathogenic autoimmune processes.

External referrals

The Neurobiochemistry and Neuroimmunology department accepts referral tests from other healthcare providers by prior agreement - please contact the department either by telephone or e-mail.

A full list of tests available along with samples requirements, pricing and transport may be found on the left.

Sample requests

Samples should be accompanied by an appropriately completed request form or Labgnostic (NPEx) shipping manifest - referring laboratories request form is acceptable. All requests must meet our sample acceptance requirements.

Sample acceptance

All samples must meet our minimum sample acceptance requirements to enable the laboratory to produce meaningful test results after correct identification of the patient. Unequivocal identification of samples and correlation with the request form for the correct patient is essential.

It is the requesting clinician's responsibility to obtain patient consent for all Neurobiochemistry and Neuroimmunology referrals.

Additional tests

Once analysed, samples will be stored. If additional tests are required, please contact the laboratory to discuss whether this would be appropriate, given the variable stability of some analytes. Additional requests for tests must be given in writing.
