About Athar Barakat

After completing the Foundation Programme, Dr Athar Barakat undertook Core Medical Training which included training in multiple medical subspecialties, including stroke and neurology. During this time, she completed the membership exams and obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians post-graduate degree.  

Dr Barakat then started her radiology training in the same training scheme, rotating across various Trusts, gaining skills and knowledge in multiple radiology subspecialties including emergency radiology, body radiology, as well as head and neck radiology.  

After general radiology training, during which time she obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists post-graduate qualification, Dr Barakat trained as a Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellow at The Walton Centre, before being appointed as a Consultant. She has completed all modules of the European Course in Neuroradiology. 

Her primary interest is in all aspects of adult diagnostic neuroradiology, including brain and spine imaging. She also has a strong interest in education, particularly post-graduate education, including training the radiologists of the future.
