About Mohammad Altibi
Dr Mohammad Altibi is a Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiologist at The Walton Centre, where he was appointed in 2025. He completed two subspecialty fellowships, in endovascular neurointervention and spinal intervention, training at high-volume centres in Birmingham and Toronto.
He trained in clinical radiology on the West Midlands scheme and subspecialised in neuroradiology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, first as a diagnostic neuroradiology fellow and then as an interventional neuroradiology fellow. After gaining his Certificate of Completion of Training, he undertook a further post-CCT fellowship in interventional neuroradiology at the University of Toronto, Canada.
His clinical practice covers minimally invasive treatment of a wide range of brain, head and neck, and spinal conditions. This includes mechanical thrombectomy for acute stroke, treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and dural arteriovenous fistulas, embolisation for chronic subdural haematoma, carotid and venous stenting, embolisation of head and neck tumours, and image-guided spinal procedures such as nerve root, facet joint injections and pedicle marking.
He has a particular interest in disorders of cerebrospinal fluid, including CSF leaks and CSF-venous fistula in spontaneous intracranial hypotension. He learned the technique of transvenous embolisation for CSF-venous fistula during his fellowship in Toronto, and has since brought that experience to The Walton Centre to help establish a dedicated service for patients with spontaneous intracranial hypotension. He contributes to the Trust's neurovascular and intracranial pressure multidisciplinary team meetings.
He has published in the peer-reviewed neurointerventional literature, is involved in device innovation and evaluation, and has been an invited speaker at international meetings including ESMINT, PAIRS and the University of Toronto interventional neuroradiology symposium. He remains active in teaching, having held honorary tutor and postgraduate education roles in Birmingham and Toronto.
Outside of medicine, he is a keen mountain biker and climber and spends much of his free time in the Lake District and the Welsh mountains.
