The Walton Centre appoints two new Non-Executive Directors
The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust has appointed two new Non-Executive Directors to their Board.
Sam Simpson recently retired from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, where she was Executive Director of Finance. She has worked in the NHS for over 25 years, since joining the North West Financial Management Training Scheme, and has held senior finance roles in commissioner, provider and strategic health authority, all in the North West.
Upon being appointed, Sam said: “I am delighted to be joining The Walton Centre at such an exciting point in its journey. The Trust's outstanding reputation, commitment to innovation and its values make this an inspiring organisation to be part of. I look forward to working with colleagues across the Trust to support its continued success, strengthen governance and assurance and help ensure we deliver the best outcomes for patients, families and our communities.”
Farhad Ahmed is currently a Civil Servant managing strategic stakeholder relations at a regulatory body. He has acted as a Diversity and Inclusion representative at board level as part of the Government Communications Service profession. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and was most recently a Non-Executive Director at Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
He said: “I'm really excited to be joining The Walton Centre. It has an exceptional reputation for specialist neurological care and a clear ambition to keep improving for patients, staff, and the communities it serves. I'm looking forward to learning from colleagues across the organisation and bringing my own experience to the Board as The Walton Centre continues to develop its role in research, innovation, partnership working and reducing health inequalities.”
Max Steinberg CBE, Chair of The Walton Centre, said: “I'm delighted two people with a vast knowledge and decades of experience have joined the Board. They have unique perspectives on very different areas of work within the public sector and I look forward to working with them on shaping the future of our outstanding service."

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is the only hospital trust in the UK specialising in neurology, neurosurgery and pain services. Although the majority of patients come from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Lancashire and the Isle of Man, for some specialist treatments of complex disorders we see patients from all parts of the country, referred by their GPs or other neurologists, neurosurgeons and pain clinicians.
The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust was rated as 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission. The independent regulator of all health and social care services in England published its rating on Friday 21 October 2016, following announced and unannounced inspection visits to the Trust in April 2016.
