Digital Patient Initiated Follow-up
How to request an appointment through PIFU
If you are on a Patient Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) pathway and feel that you need support from your clinical team, you can request an appointment online.
Step 1: Start your request
Follow the link provided to access the appointment request service - my.drdoctor.co.uk/wcft
You will need your surname, date of birth and postcode. A secure code will then be sent to the telephone number held on your hospital record.

Step 2: Go to the PIFU page
- Go to Appointments
- Find the PIFU appointment request service
Read the information on the page to make sure the service is right for you, then select Start.
Can't see the option to request an appointment?
The PIFU request service will only be available if your clinical team has added you to a PIFU pathway. If you think you should be able to make a request but cannot see this option, please contact your clinical team.
Step 3: Tell us why you need an appointment
Once you are signed in, you will be asked to tell your clinical team why you are requesting an appointment.
Please provide as much useful information as you can about why you feel you need to be seen.
Please also let us know your preferred date or time for an appointment.
Step 4: Submit your request
Check the information you have provided and submit your request.
You will see a confirmation message to let you know that your request has been received.
Please remember submitting a request does not mean that an appointment has been booked yet. Your clinical team will review the information you have provided and decide the most appropriate next step.
Step 5: Check your request
You can check the progress of your request at any time.
Simply:
- Sign in to your Patient Portal
- Go to Appointments
- Find your PIFU request
You will be able to see your request and whether it has been reviewed by the clinical team.
Step 6: What happens next?
Your clinical team will review your request and decide what should happen next.
You may receive a notification by text message or email to let you know that your request has been reviewed and what you need to do next.
If an appointment is needed, the team will provide you with further information about this.
Important
PIFU should not be used for urgent or emergency medical problems. If you need urgent medical help, please use the appropriate NHS urgent or emergency service.
