Thrombectomy service makes top five in latest NHS stroke services data
The Walton Centre's thrombectomy service, an integral part of intervention for some stroke patients, in its partnership with Aintree University Hospital's Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre, has featured in the top five in the latest national stroke audit figures.
The Sentinel Stroke Audit Programme (SSNAP) measures stroke care in the NHS, testing services on a number of factors, including speed of treatment, and specialist interventions patients receive.
In partnership with Aintree, the SSNAP data awarded the service a 'B' score - which describes an outstanding level of care for stroke patients. SSNAP data scoring has recently become more rigorous, including measures for thrombectomies, which are physical interventions to remove blood clots from the brain, which The Walton Centre is the provider for the Northwest and North Wales.
Divisional Clinical Director for Neurology and Consultant Neurologist Dr Anita Krishnan said: “We are constantly striving to improve and enhance the services for those affected by stroke in the region, by delivering swift and effective assessments and interventions. The latest SSNAP data stands as a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and collaborative working of team members between The Walton Centre and Aintree."
